DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The Utilities Department provides electric, potable water and sanitary utilities services for all of the citizens of the City of Lake Worth and certain other locations outside the city limits. The Utilities Department also bills for most of the other services that the City of Lake Worth provides to its residents.

 OBJECTIVES

  • Provide a high quality of electric, water and sewer services to the systems’ customers at the most economic rate possible.
  • Assure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including environmental regulatory agencies.
  • Continue preventative maintenance and capital improvements that increase the efficiency and reliability of generating equipment owned by the City of Lake Worth Utilities department.
  • Continue preventative maintenance and capital improvements which result in the continuation of the high reliability of service that our electric customers have enjoyed.
  • Continue the quick response to electrical outage situations when they occur so that the inconvenience is minimized.
  • Maintain at the water treatment plant a state certified water laboratory that is licensed and inspected by Department of Health and Rehabilitation.
  • Continue the preventative maintenance and capital improvements that have resulted in protecting our customers from health problems due to contaminated or defective water delivery systems.
  • Continue the preventative maintenance program of hydrants throughout our service area and improving the capacity where possible in conjunction with the Fire Department.
  • Continue the preventative maintenance and capital improvements that has resulted in efficiently removing the sanitary sewer discharges from our customers facilities and transporting it through jointly owned and contracted pipes to the regional treatment facility. This joint facility is operated and maintained by the five (5) entities which control its activities.
  • Continue the monitoring and certification of backflow devices as required by health regulations to protect the customers of the water system.
  • Operate the Regional Sewer system in such a manner to reduce the costs and provide continuous service to the seven (7) contract customers.
