A Special Gift to the Community

The Street Painting Festival, in collaboration with local artist/ sculptor Claudia Jane Klein, commissioned an outdoor sculpture as a gift to the City of Lake Worth. Street Painting Festival Committee members unanimously selected the mermaid design from four options the artist proposed for consideration. The sculpture has taken the artist more than a year to complete.

Part of the mission of the Street Painting Festival is to give back to the community by way of community projects associated with the arts. The Festival Committee has worked towards The Sculpture Project for a number of years and is proud to announce its completion.

Mermaid 2000 was unveiled on January 16, 2002, amid much pomp and celebration and was attended by city and county officials, sponsors of the Festival, and many friends and family members. A reception followed at the Mango Inn Bed & Breakfast in Lake Worth. The sculpture will make its home at "Fountain Park Triangle" (at Bryant Park), the semi-circular walkway/park facing north towards the golf course at the foot of the Lake Worth Bridge and will remain there for all to enjoy. She enjoys pedestrian admirers'. Please take time to go visit her!
